Music can stir emotions in people and bring back memories of times gone by. It allows us to sympathize with each other in a way that nothing else can cause us to do. It connects us through our souls. Some music has such a powerful message that decades later, it is still striking a chord in the hearts of people all over the world.

When Simon and Garfunkel recorded “The Sound of Silence” in 1964, it conveyed a message that would last for generations. Written by Paul Simon, it took almost a year to complete, but was instantly spellbinding when it hit the airwaves.

By January 1, 1966 the song ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list. It was being played in radio stations from one coast to the other. The song is still famous to this day, and has been remade in a way that you would never imagine.

The band Disturbed, led by frontman David Drainman, is a heavy metal band that has created a unique take on the song. The 1960’s song has been redone by this talented group and has been viewed over 370 million times.

Drainman is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and grew up writing songs and using his amazing talent for not one, but two bands. He was in the band Device and now is the lead singer from Disturbed.

His voice is hypnotizing as it begins the song with the lyrics, “Hello darkness my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again.” His raw talent flows into the most inner part of your soul and is astoundingly beautiful.

The band is famous for much more hard core songs like “Down With The Sickness” and they’ve released five straight number one albums since 2002. It would sound as if they’re headed that way again with the remake of this popular song.

The song manages to capture the attention not just of fans of the popular band, but those that remember the original version of the song from the 1960’s. If you’re the type of person that is touched when you hear a song, you might want to grab a tissue while you listen to the video below.
