The reboot of the sitcom “Roseanne,” which had been one of the biggest ratings hits of the season, was cancelled by ABC on Tuesday after the show’s star Roseanne Barr posted a shocking tweet.

On Tuesday morning, Barr took to Twitter to post a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama’s senior advisor. For ABC executives, this was the final straw.

Barr has since deleted the tweet and apologized, but it was considered to be “too little too late” by the higher-ups at the network.

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste,” Barr tweeted.

Though Barr is known for her controversial tweets, even those who work with her on the show admitted that she went too far this time.

Wanda Sykes, consulting producer on the show, quit immediately after Barr posted the controversial tweet.

Sara Gilbert, who played Barr’s daughter on the show and also served as executive producer of the sitcom, also condemned Barr for the comments.

“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least,” Gilbert tweeted.

“This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member,” she added.

There is no word yet on whether another network will pick up the show, but that seems unlikely right now given the fact that everyone is pretty much in agreement that Barr crossed the line. I
