Werewolves are something we see in movies and hear about in stories, but for the residents of Madera Ranchos, California, the mythical animal seemed to become a reality. One woman finally got close enough to see what the werewolf really was.

The animal had been spotted along the roadside and wandering around the orchards for several months. It was skinny and losing hair and had hard, scaly skin. It’s tail was deformed and it looked as if it hadn’t eaten in weeks. The creature was scary and people feared that it was dangerous.

Nobody knew exactly what the creature was until one woman who was passing by pulled her car over to the side of the road and took a picture. She sent the picture to an animal rescue group and immediately they knew they had to help.

Megan Bowe, the founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescue Pup, arrived to the location of the animal and bravely walked up to him. What she found brought her to tears. The animal was in really bad shape, was depressed, and could barely stand on his own.

The rescuer realized, upon inspection, that the werewolf was really a neglected and malnourished German Shepherd mix that was in desperate need of help. Luckily, King, as she named him, didn’t put up a fight and happily went with Megan.

He loaded up in her car and was taken to a vet who found out how serious King’s condition really was. He had scabies and a broken tail and pelvis, along with other injuries and diseases. Some of the diseases were contagious so he had to be quarantined away from the other animals at the rescue.

The vet thought King had likely been hit by a car, which would explain his messed up tail and broken pelvis. The damage had likely been months before because things had already begun healing incorrectly.

Although King looked old, he was really only one-year-old, and Megan took him home and settled him into a place in her garage where he could begin healing. She began feeding him small portions of food that she gradually increased so he could start gaining weight and building strength for the operations needed for his tail and pelvis.

Even with everything King had been through, he still managed to show affection to Megan by resting his head on her lap when she sits down to love on him. A month into his treatment, he began improving and was finally able to have the surgery for his tail and pelvis.

The surgery was a success and he was able to start taking walks to build up the strength in his legs. He may need another operation on his pelvis, but for now, he’s thriving in his new home. He no longer looks like the scary creature no one wanted to get near.

With the help of Megan, he should be healthy and ready for adoption in a few months. Megan says she still can’t believe how many cars probably passed him by, when all it took was one person to give him a chance.

Thank goodness Megan was connected with King. Without her he probably wouldn’t be alive, let alone living the life that every animal deserves, one that is happy and healthy. If you agree, share with your friends.
