Right after Prince Harry married Meghan Markle on Saturday, the couple were given the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Now, Queen Elizabeth has requested that Harry be given another title that has caught many by surprise.
The Queen has just made Harry the President of the Commonwealth Trust, something she has been the head of for decades. This is a huge honor for Harry, who has just the right amount of charisma and energy to lead this organization. The Queen clearly has a lot of faith in Harry’s leadership abilities if she’s giving him this responsibility!
The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust is an organization that tries to share ideas that will make beneficial changes all over the world. A total of 53 countries are in the Commonwealth’s network of nations, and the group tries to promote programs that focus on education, health, the environment, and sports.
Harry will undoubtedly be helped in this role by his wife Meghan, who is known for her humanitarian efforts.
“It’s a very astute move giving Prince Harry a non-political, global role, drawing on his charisma and energy to help keep the Commonwealth and its headship relevant to a younger generation. This is soft-power diplomacy,” said Dr. Sue Onslow, a deputy director Institute of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London.
Meghan paid tribute to the organization by having a flower sewn onto her veil to represent each country in the Commonwealth. She’s clearly very excited to do as much for the Commonwealth as she can!
This really does seem like the perfect role for Harry and Meghan to take on!
