When Todd Steincamp headed from Iowa to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a funeral, he never dreamed that his trip would end the way it did. He was 70 miles from his destination in a little town called Wild Rose, Wisconsin, when  his car broke down. It was the unexpected help from a stranger that caught him off guard and has caused his story to go viral.

Todd says he heard a grind in his front tire around 7 a.m. that kept getting worse. He was certain he had a wheel bearing going out. Unfortunately, he was in the middle of nowhere while cutting across Wisconsin and wasn’t sure exactly what he was going to do.

As he pulled into the town of Wild Rose, he saw a tiny store and service garage and hoped that someone would be there that could help him. As he walked in, an older gentleman was putting items on a shelf, so Todd asked if he worked there.

The man replied that he did and asked what was wrong. Todd explained to him what was going on with his car. The man noticed that Todd was dressed up and asked where he was going. Todd explained that he was on his way to a funeral in Green Bay.

The man told him to pull his truck around back where he proceeded to put it up on a lift and confirmed Todd’s fears. He had a wheel bearing going out on  his car and it definitely needed fixed. He asked Todd how much further he had to go and Todd told him about 70 miles. The man knew it wasn’t going to make it that far, but said it would take a few hours to fix his car.

Todd asked the man if there was a place to rent a car, but being a town of only 725 people, there was nothing. That’s when the man did something that shocked Todd. He reached into his pocket and handed him the keys to his personal vehicle.

The 74-year-old man was Glenn Geib, and he said to Todd, “Take my truck. Fill it up with gas, don’t turn on the emergency lights, and get going. She’ll do 120 mph if you need her to.” Todd couldn’t believe what had just happened.

The elderly gentleman smiled as he handed his keys to the stranger he had met just ten minutes earlier. Todd jumped in the truck whose bed was full of tools and split wood and went to the funeral and back.

When he returned, the two men sat and talked for a while and Todd thanked him for his generosity. Glenn told him more about himself and Todd says the lesson he came away with was one great lesson. “Just be kind and help if you can.”

So if you ever get the chance to stop in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, be sure to stop at the Lauritzen Sport Shop and say hello to Glenn. We can all stand to learn from a man like him.
