“Today” show host Kathie Lee Gifford was married to former NFL star Frank Gifford for 29 years until he passed away suddenly in August of 2015.

In a new video, Kathie Lee opened up about how lonely she has been since Frank died. Though she admitted to feeling alone at times, she also said that her faith in God has gotten her through this difficult time in her life.

“My biggest struggle at this point of my life is loneliness,” she said. “I’ve lost my parents, my husband is gone now, and my children live far away from me. There are times when I am overwhelmed by loneliness.”

“On a beautiful Sunday morning, I found my husband [had] passed on to heaven,” she said. “I had a peace that passes all understanding. He met Jesus and Jesus took his breath away.”

Kathie Lee admitted that she has felt overwhelmed by sadness at times, but she has chosen to be hopeful rather than focus on her sadness.

“I couldn’t bear to think about, oh, woe is me, I’m a widow,” she said. “No. I’m so grateful that Frank is exactly where he is supposed to be.”

“I’ve discovered that if I just keep thinking about what I’ve lost, I don’t pay any attention to what I still have,” she added. “I don’t want to live my life in hopelessness. I’ve been there.”

Kathie Lee is now focused on looking forward, as there are still things she wants to accomplish in her life.

“Every single day if I wake up and I have a pulse, I have a purpose,” she said. “Life does beat you down. Loss beats you down. Hardship takes its toll.”

“My joy is non-negotiable,” Kathie Lee concluded. “I tell you, that’s the beginning of bliss in life. I want to be purposeful in my life. I’m also getting to old to waste any of it.”
