Dogs are some of the most loyal creatures. They have been found nuzzled up to missing children that have wandered away from home, and they’ve been spotted laying by the casket or gravesite of their fallen soldier.

The story of Sadie is no different. She is a 13-year-old border collie mix that was adopted when she was just eight weeks old by Julie Beaulieu and her husband. Sadie had been with them nearly her entire life.

One day Julia’s husband suddenly passed away. As the emergency workers stopped working on her husband at their home, Sadie walked up to him and nudged his hand with her nose. The pup clearly didn’t understand what was happening.

It wasn’t just Julia that struggled with his passing either. Sadie would spend hours staring out the window waiting on her owner to come home. She even stopped eating for 10 whole days and lost 10 pounds.

When it came time for Julia to plan her husband’s memorial service, she decided that Sadie needed to be included. She thought it might help give her closure and bid goodbye to the man they had both loved.

At the visitation Sadie and Julia walked up to the casket and with Sadie standing on her back legs, they both peered in. Julia says Sadie had a look of shock on her face and seemed puzzled by what she was seeing. Then she relaxed and stayed by Julia’s side through the remainder of the service.

Jeremy May with Elements Cremation that helped Julia organize the memorial service says that pets are part of the family and more and more people are bringing their four-legged friends to visitations and other services. He took a photo of Julia and Sadie and shared it to show the bond between humans and dogs.

“This photo has touched us so deeply at Elements Cremation, Pre-planning & Burial, and we and the family want to share it with you. This photograph captures a special moment between a man, his wife, and their best friend. She had recently lost her dear husband to a sudden heart attack and wanted to see him one last time to say goodbye. After the death, she showed signs of depression, would not eat, and waited for him to come home every day. The wife believed that Sadie could also benefit from saying goodbye and getting closure herself, and she was right!”

Upon returning home from the service, Sadie went in the house and ate for the first time since her loved one’s death. Apparently seeing him one last time gave her the closure that she needed.

Although this story is sad, it is a true testament about man’s best friend and the bond they share with us. Please share this story with your friends to warm their hearts too.
