In Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth, Texas, people had noticed that a German Shepherd dog had been wandering around on her own for several weeks. The local animal rescue was contacted, but the German Shepherd had a secret that she wasn’t quite willing to give up yet.

Judy Obregon of The Abandoned Ones animal rescue arrived to the area where the dog had been spotted. The area was known for being a dumping ground for unwanted pets and Judy had rescued plenty of dogs from the area before.

The German Shepherd was hesitant to approach Judy. She’d obviously been alone and scared for a very long time. Judy knew she would have to win the dog’s trust and being patient was the key. Judy began coming daily to feed the dog to earn her trust.

One morning Judy arrived and the dog was already waiting for her. Judy knew that she was getting close to being able to rescue her. But about the time Judy decided it was time to try to catch the German Shepherd, the dog disappeared back into the trees.

It wasn’t long though, that the dog emerged from the forest with another dog. The German Shepherd came towards Judy slowly with a pit bull by her side. They were adamant protectors of each other, but Judy had earned the German Shepherd’s trust enough that she was willing to bring her friend with her.

It was as if the German Shepherd was saying, “If you’re taking me, you’re taking my friend too.” The pit bull had scrapes and cuts on its face and needed medical attention. Judy took them to the vet and luckily the pit bull’s wounds would easily heal and both of them were in otherwise, good condition.

The cute pair were given names of their own at the shelter, Iris the German Shepherd and Clover the pit bull. They stayed by each other’s side the entire time. Now Clover’s scars have almost healed and they are both visibly much happier.

They are awaiting a home to take them both in together, but until then, they are happy to wait at the shelter, play together, and get to know the other dogs. Their friendship is truly one of a kind and adorable.

If you agree, please share their story with your friends to bring a smile to their face.
