Dancing competitions may seem like fun and games, but they are still sure to bring out the competitive sides of those performing in them.

The USA Grand National Dance Championship has been held over the Memorial Day weekend every year since 1995, and it attracts couples from all over the nation trying to take the coveted titles in over a dozen divisions. One of the toughest groups in the competition is the Rising Star division in the West Coast swing category.

Bryn Anderson took her first West Coast swing class when she was only 5 years-old, and since then, she has been incorporating styles of dance from ballet and jazz to contemporary and Latin into the unique form of West Coast swing that she performs today.

Her partner Ken Rutland was a hip hop dancer all his life until he switched to partner dancing just seven years ago. In his swing routines, he likes to incorporate swingout, salsa, zydeco, and other dance styles as well.

Bryn and Ken had only been performing together for a year when they arrived at this competition. Performing to “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry, their performance was so unique that it has since gone viral!

After watching the video below, it should come as no surprise that Bryn and Ken won first prize and were named the rising stars of 2017! These two definitely have long careers ahead of them in the world of dance!

Check out their performance in the video below, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see it as well!
