Christmas is the time of year where we get to enjoy some of our favorite things. We get to decorate our house with a beautiful Christmas tree, light up the outside of our home, and bake cookies and treats that fills the whole house with the aromas of the holiday. We also get to hear some amazing music that comes around for only a few weeks each year.

The Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah” is one of those songs. While the Canadian writer’s tune is more of a secular song and is heard once in a while during other times of the year, we hear the beautiful song more often around Christmas.

The song praises the Lord and his birth in a way that sets it apart from many other Christmas songs. The song begins with lyrics, “I’ve heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord, but you don’t really care for music, do you? It goes like this the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing hallelujah.”

There have been multiple renditions of the song since it first appeared in 1984, but it was a rendition by three young kids that caught the attention of the judges on the popular television show “The Voice.” Their youthful rendition wowed the judges and we’re sure it will wow you too when you watch it in the video below.

Patrizia, 12; Simon, 12; and Helen, 11, appeared on Germany’s television show with their parents watching intently backstage. Simon begins the tune with his high notes and the girls chime in to add in beautiful harmonies.

You won’t want to miss these amazing kids singing this beautiful song. The judges and audience were left with their mouths wide open in awe just listening to them bring the traditional song to life.
