Experts are speaking out to warn that a “widespread contamination” was found in 93 percent of the bottled water that was tested in a recent study.

The study was carried out by researcher Sherri Mason from the State University of New York’s Fredonia campus, and she tested brands that included Aqua, Aquafina, Bisleri, Dasani, Epura, Evian, Gerolsteiner, Minalba, Nestle Pure Life, Wahaha and even San Pellegrino. Mason found that each of these brands were contaminated with microplastics, which have been linked to certain types of cancer, lower sperm count, and even to conditions such as ADHD and autism.

Tests have been done on over 250 samples from numerous countries, including Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, and the United States. The tests found that 93 percent of the samples contained plastic debris like nylon, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene. In one bottle of water, the amount of plastic .10 millimeter big ranges from 0 particles to over 10,000 particles, with the average being around 10.4 particles per liter. In smaller particles, there can also be 325 particles per liter.

Because of these test findings, experts are warning people that they should switch to tap water, since it contains much less plastics than bottled water. Though bottled water executives dispute these findings, they have yet to offer any evidence to back up their claims.

I always thought that drinking bottled water was safer than consuming tap water, but now I realize I couldn’t have been more wrong. SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
