Queen Elizabeth is in mourning this week after a devastating death rocked Buckingham Palace.
The Queen is deeply saddened after the death of her last Corgi, whose name was Willow. The beloved dog passed away after a long battle with cancer, and she was nearly 15 years-old.
Willow was the last of the line of dogs bred from the Queen’s original Corgi Susan, who was given to her 75 years ago on her 18th birthday by her father, King George. The Queen has bred Corgis ever since, resulting in numerous family dogs over the years.
“She has mourned every one of her corgis over the years, but she has been more upset about Willow’s death than any of them,” a Buckingham Palace source said. “It is probably because Willow was the last link to her parents and a pastime that goes back to her own childhood. It really does feel like the end of an era.”
The Queen is not completely without pets now, however, as she still has two “Dorgis” (a cross between a Dachshund and a Corgi). She also has an adopted Corgi, Whisper, that Her Majesty took in after the death of a former Sandringham gamekeeper.
Please say a prayer for Queen Elizabeth as she copes with this devastating loss!
