“Bewitched” was one of the most popular sitcoms on television in the 1960s, with millions of people tuning in every week.

Though most child stars often end up going down the wrong path in life, the twin sisters who played Tabitha Stephens on the show managed to avoid the pitfalls of some of their fellow young actors. Erin and her fraternal twin sister Diane were able to beat the odds and become well-rounded adults with their own successful careers in the entertainment industry!

Erin and Diane Murphy were just toddlers when they were cast to play the daughter of Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York on the show. The girls remember them fondly to this day, saying they “really were like parents” to them.

“I always called her ‘Mantha Mommy, because I couldn’t say Samantha, and I called Dick Sargent, Darren Daddy,” Erin, 54, explained. “And I think it’s because we spent 12 hours a day together growing up. I looked to her as a parent, and she would tell me what to do like a parent. In a lot of ways I’m so much [more] like her than I am my own mom, which is hilarious.”

Erin ended up being the main actress to play Tabitha, as her sister Diane was far more shy. The actress has nothing but fond memories of her early years on the show’s set.

“From the time I was a baby, I love it [SIC],” said Erin. “I liked the lights and loved being on my set. My sister used to cry when they would bring her on set. Even now she hates it.”

After “Bewitched” was cancelled in 1972, Erin’s parents could see that their daughter still wanted to act, so she went on to appear in over 100 commercials as a child actress. Though she was extremely successful, her parents wanted her to have a normal childhood, so they had her retire from acting temporarily when she was 15 and moved their family to Orange County. There, she had the typical high school experience, even becoming a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen!

“I think I kind of had the best of both worlds,” she said.

Though she half-heartedly pursued an acting career in the 1990s and 2000s, Erin’s main focus was on raising her six children.

Now that her kids are all grown up, Erin is tackling acting full time once again! She recently appeared in the television movie “Life Interrupted,” a film about former child stars, and she has a number of other projects in the pipeline as well!

We’re so glad to see that Erin is doing so well, and we will definitely be keeping our eye out for her on television! Good luck to you, Erin, and break a leg!
