Southwest Flight 1380 was flying from New York City to Dallas on Tuesday when suddenly, the unthinkable happened.

As the plane reached 30,000 feet, one of the engines exploded. Shrapnel from the engine shattered one of the windows, and the woman seated next to it was sucked partly out of the plane. The woman has since been identified as Jennifer Riordan, a mother of two and a business executive.

Passengers immediately started frantically trying to save Jennifer, but they did not know what to do initially. One of the people who leapt to action was a self-described cowboy named Tim McGinty, who was seated a few rows behind her. He ran to the window and started trying to pull Riordan back inside.

“A guy helped and we got her pulled in and they tried to resuscitate her,” Tim said. The guy he was referring to was a Texas firefighter named Andrew Needum, who started giving Jennifer CPR.

Tim’s wife Kristen was not surprised at all by his heroism.

“My husband loves God and believes our purpose here is to love fiercely and to serve others… Some heroes wear capes, but mine wears a cowboy hat,” she said.

Sadly, Tim and Andrew’s quick thinking was not enough to save Jennifer’s life, as she ended up passing away from injuries she suffered from the explosion.

It’s incredibly sad that this woman lost her life this way, but it’s also heartening to see the brave actions of the people like Tim and Andrew who tried to save her.

Please keep Jennifer’s family in your thoughts and prayers!
