Most American homes are full of cleaning products that are made up of tons of harmful chemicals. We buy these products because we think we need them around the house, but this is actually oftentimes not true at all!

Some of the products that have the most dangerous chemicals in them are drain cleaners, which are often made up of skin-burning chemicals such as lye. It turns out that you don’t actually need any of these products to clean your drain, and we’ve compiled some eco-friendly hacks to show you how you can do it without them!

Baking soda and vinegar

All you need to unclog your drain is 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of vinega. Pour this mixture down the drain and chase it with up to four cups of boiling water. The baking soda and vinegar breaks down the fat and grease in the drain, while the water washes down whatever is left! It really is that simple!

Salt and water

If it’s your bathroom sink that is clogged, it’s likely there’s a buildup of soap and grease in the drain. To get rid of this, pour in 1/2 cup of salt and chase it down with boiling water. Because the salt is so gritty, it will scrub all the grease, hair, and gunk out of the drain.

Dishwasher detergent

This detergent is DESIGNED to be tough on grease, so why not use it to clear the grease out of your drain??

Just pour a little dishwasher detergent down the drain and wash it down with hot water, and the drain will quickly unclog!

Next time your drain gets clogged, try out some of these hacks instead of using some expensive chemicals! SHARE this story so your friends and family can see these hacks as well!
