Spring is finally here, which means it’s time for spring cleaning! With summer right around the corner, we all are trying to get our homes as tidy as possible. If you’re having trouble deciding where to start, we have compiled five spring cleaning hacks that are sure to make cleaning your house much easier!

Toilet Siphons

Most of us clean our toilets every week, but you likely don’t clean the toilet siphon nearly as often! This is the part of the toilet in which the water comes out to refill the bowl, and you’d be surprised how dirty it gets. If the toilet siphon gets too dirty, the rest of the toilet will become dirty as well, so it’s crucial to clean the siphon every once in awhile.

Here are seven easy steps you can follow to get your siphon totally clean:

  1. Locate the siphon jets and clean off the holes with an old toothbrush
  2. Use a coat hanger to push through any dirt or gunk that may be lodged
  3. Close off the water supply to that toilet using the shut-off valve and flush the toilet to drain the water from the tank
  4. Using duct tape, cover the holes under the rim of the toilet
  5. Pour one gallon of white vinegar into the toilet tank and flush
  6. Let this sit overnight and in the morning, remove the tape
  7. Brush away any debris with the toothbrush

Brooms

While it may seem weird to clean something that is used for cleaning, you have to do it every once in awhile. Since brooms are used to collect dust and dirt, they can get absolutely filthy. One way you can clean your broom is by using disinfecting wipes to wipe down the broom’s bristles, clearing out any bacteria. You can also use a vacuum to rid your broom of any dust or pet hair!

Reusable Grocery Bags

It may seem strange to clean these bags, but it really isn’t when you think about it! You put various food items in these bags all the time without cleaning them, and you often store the bags in the trunk of your car or in a dusty closet.

Washing these bags is VERY simple! All you have to do is throw them in the washing machine, just as if they were a piece of clothing. This will ensure your groceries always stay fresh in your reusable bags!

Glass Cooktop

Since you’re cooking different foods on it all the time, the glass cooktop of your stove can get very dirty. Luckily, cleaning it is very simple.

All you have to do is cover any marked-up part of your cooktop with baking soda and let it sit for a minute. While you are waiting, soak a rag in water and dish soap and ring it out over the baking soda before laying it out flat over the cooktop.

Let this sit for 20 minutes, then scrub the cooktop and wipe up whatever is left with a paper towel. Your cooktop will be spotless once you have done this!

Patio Furniture

Your patio furniture has been in storage all winter, which means they’re likely too filthy to use right now. All you need to clean this furniture is some vinegar, which you can put in a spray bottle to scrub down the mildew stains.

You can use the vinegar in one of two ways. First, you can mix 1 cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 1/4 cup of baking soda with one gallon of water. Scrub all the dirty areas of the furniture with a toothbrush until it is good as new!

You can also mix 2 cups of white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of dish soap in a bucket of hot water and use a soft brush to scrub this mixture on the patio furniture. Either of these methods are sure to work like a charm!
