When these five Navy sailors took the stage, nobody was expecting them to do anything like this!

The U.S. Navy Band is made up of dedicated sailors who play music to honor members of the United States military.

In the video below this story, you’ll see members of the Navy band “The Sea Chanters” perform songs from the hit musical “Jersey Boys.” The group’s website states, “The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, to opera, Broadway, and contemporary music. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Adam Tyler, the Sea Chanters perform for the public throughout the United States. At home in Washington, they perform for the president, vice president and numerous congressional, military and foreign dignitaries.”

The group was founded back in 1956 by Lt. Harold Fultz, who recruited singers from the Navy School of Music. His goal was to make a group that was dedicated to performing patriotic songs to inspire the members of the government at the State of the Nation dinner. The group later expanded after it became a hit, and it continues to be popular today!

“Throughout their history, the Sea Chanters have remained true to the Navy’s watchwords of pride and professionalism, and they continue to flourish as a vibrant ensemble,” their website added.

The video below is of a 2014 performance that occurred during the Concerts on the Avenue series at the United States Navy Memorial. Check out the performance for yourself, and SHARE this story if you love and respect the U.S. military!
