It can be incredibly humiliating to be told in front of a line of people at a store that your credit card has been declined. One veteran recently endured this situation during a trip to the Dollar General Store, but then something happened that he was never expecting.

Tim McKellar was standing in line at the store when he noticed that the elderly man who was about to pay for his items was wearing a veterans cap. Sadly, the man’s card was declined after he could not remember his own PIN number.

“He tried a couple different times when another lady offered to help him again with no luck,” Tim wrote in a Facebook post.

Seeing that the elderly man was a veteran, the cashier decided to step up and give back to him in an unexpected way.

“That’s when the cashier Jacob Wittman pulled his wallet out and told the lady (who had been helping) to scan his card,” Tim wrote, adding that the veteran then confusedly asked if the cashier had just paid for his groceries.

“Yes sir I did. And, you don’t owe me a dime,” Jacob said.

Tim was so moved by what he saw that he had to share it on Facebook, and the post immediately went viral.

“Now this kid obviously makes minimum wage or real close to it and probably didn’t have the extra money to spare. I thanked him for what he had done, asked for his name and took his picture. Let’s give this Good Samaritan the acknowledgement that he deserves,” he wrote.

Jacob has certainly gotten the acknowledgement he deserves, as internet users have been praising him nonstop!

“Such an awesome act of kindness. Sending you a big hug and many blessings from miles and miles away,” one user wrote, while another added, “God bless you young man. So many people could learn from you, what it is to show kindness. You are an inspiration to us all. Thank you.”

This just goes to show how just one simple act of kindness can be hugely important in someone’s life! This veteran had made sacrifices for Americans like Jacob, and the cashier in turn wanted to do something to show that what he has done is appreciated.
