While hotels rooms often have a safe to keep valuables in, many of us are still cautious about leaving items in the room or even the safe if they have any value. So was the case with an elderly couple that had packed up everything from their home and headed to a new life in Kentucky.

The couple had packed everything in the moving truck except for one suitcase with personal items and the wife’s purse which had a hefty sum of cash in it. They were careful to keep close tabs on the purse, and even kept it safely by their sides during the night.

When the couple arrived to their new home in Kentucky they realized that something was terribly wrong. The wife’s purse was missing. This meant that the money they had saved to start their new life in Kentucky was gone. They didn’t know what they were going to do without the $11,000 in cash.

They had no idea where the bag had gone missing, and no idea who to call to help them recover the money. Luckily, a very honest housekeeper at the Regent Hotel and Suites in Ann Arbor had discovered the woman’s purse that had been tucked safely inside a dresser drawer.

While the housekeeper could have easily just slipped the bag into her car, kept the money as her own, and never told anyone otherwise, Brigid Murray knew that wasn’t right and the rightful owners likely needed the cash.

Murray had spoken with the elderly couple before they checked out of the hotel that morning and she didn’t hesitate to turn the money in so that it could be returned to the couple. The hotel overnighted the cash to the couple who cried with relief at getting back their savings.

We applaud Murray with having the integrity and honesty to return the money to the rightful owners! Her actions speaks volume and we love to hear stories that reinforces our faith in knowing there are good people everywhere.
