Cats and dogs are often thought of as two animals that do not get along. However, when this cat met a dog suffering from a serious disability, he knew he had to put any differences their species may have aside.

Meet Terfel, a 14 year-old chocolate brown lab who lives with his owner Judy Godfrey-Brown in Holyhead North Wales. Though he is now in the loving home that he needs, things weren’t always so easy for him in the past.

Terfel was abused by the people who owned him when he was a puppy.

“I was told that he’d been thrown against a wall and that has caused his blindness,” said Judy, his current owner. “So, it must have been quite traumatic for him at the time.”

All the abuse Terfel suffered resulted in vision problems for him, and cataracts began to form in his beautiful eyes when he was 8. Since then, Terfel has lost most of his vision and is effectively blind.

As Terfel lost his sight, he started having trouble getting around the house and was constantly bumping into furniture and walls. Eventually, Terfel just gave up and spent all his days inside a basket, refusing to venture out at all.

Then he made an unlikely friend who changed everything.

This is Pudditat!

Pudditat is a stray cat who Judy decided to adopt. Pudditat does not get on well with other cats, as he tends to bully them and show them who’s boss. When it came to Terfel, however, Pudditat acts very differently.

“[Pudditat] prefers Terfal to any of the other cats,” Judy said. “I think he must have known Terfel was blind because he sort of bonded with him straight away. I’ve never seen anything like it— most cats and dogs hate each other.”

Terfal’s mood immediately seemed to lift once he started hanging around Pudditat. These days, Pudditat helps Terfel get around the house by staying right by his side at all times! Judy said that Terfel “relies on Pudditat to help him get around and avoid bumping things.”

“[Pudditat] uses his paws to guide him. They are glued to each other,” she said. “It’s often when they’re out, they’re nose to tail with Pudditat in the lead and Terfel following him.”

“It’s lovely to see— especially when you’re used to dogs chasing cats,” Judy said. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a [dog-cat duo] that have got on quite so well as these two— and relied upon each other in the same way.”

We’re so glad to see that this dog and cat have found each other and are helping each other live their best lives! Find out more about them in the video below, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
