This has been a busy week for celebrities revealing their transformations. First we saw Christina Aguilera revealing her freckles, now we’re seeing the changes funny girl Melissa McCarthy has made over the past year. You won’t even recognize her!

McCarthy says she’s been nearly every weight you can imagine. The comedian is notorious for shaking off the Hollywood stereotype that you have to be stick thin to be successful. The Saturday Night Live actress is so popular that she has her own recurring roles and a plus size clothing line, but she’s not nearly as plus sized as she used to be.

Over the past year, McCarthy, like many other committed actresses and actors, has transformed her body for an upcoming movie role. She’s lost a whopping 75 pounds and you can barely recognize her as the same person.

In the past, McCarthy has proven that you can be a plus sized woman and still succeed, but this time, she was asked to transform for a movie role and she did. She will be playing in the biographical drama, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” The movie is a drastic change from her typical funny gal roles, but she wanted to take on a new task.

The role was only part of her motivation to lose weight though. McCarthy says part of it was personal as well. Most of us tend to overanalyze how we look in the mirror and in photos, but imagine if you saw yourself on the big screen the way McCarthy does.

McCarthy shed the excess weight using the ketogenic diet, which is a popular trend right now. Dieters on this plan eat higher amounts of fat, moderate amounts of protein, and a relatively low amount of carbs forcing the body to burn fat as fuel. Apparently it worked really well for McCarthy. She says she also does regular exercise.

At a new healthy weight, McCarthy says she’s more confident and happier than she’s been in a long time. “I always thought it was worth the fight,” she says. “Now I know it is.”
