From a very young age, children are taught to call 911 if they are in a dangerous situation. That’s why when two-year-old Aaliyah Garrett of South Carolina needed help, she immediately picked up the phone to call the police.

When a dispatcher for the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office took the call, he could not believe what he was hearing at first. Aaliyah desperately needed help but he could not figure out why.

The dispatcher initially just heard muffled noises when he took the call. He repeated the phrase ‘Hello’ and could just barely make out the tiny voice of a toddler. Not knowing what was going on, he sent Deputy Martha Lohnes to check out the scene.

When Martha arrived at Aaliyah’s home, the little girl came running out to her looking disheveled. The officer knew right away that this would be a call like no other she had ever seen.

Aaliyah’s grandfather was home at the time, but he had no idea the toddler had called 911. Her mother had always told her to call the police if she needed help, so when Aaliyah found herself in a bind, that’s exactly what she did!

Though Aaliyah’s grandfather told Martha there was no problem, the little girl was half dressed and hopping around the house, still struggling to put on her pants. Martha realized it was clear the girl needed some assistance, so she sprung into action and now has an adorable new friend.
