Like all other families, the British royals have had their issues with each other in the past. Luckily, they have a wise matriarch like Queen Elizabeth around to solve whatever issues come up within the family.

In his new book “Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion, and Defiance of Prince Charles,” author Tom Bower claims that inside sources have told him that some friction recently came up between Prince Charles and the parents of his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton. The friction surprisingly centered on the children of Kate and Prince William, Charles’ son.

After William and Kate decided to spend Christmas Day with the Middleton family, Charles reportedly felt “usurped” by the Middletons. Charles, who is known to be very sensitive, was hurt that his grandchildren spent the day with the Middletons rather than with him and Camilla, and he chose to blame Kate’s parents for this choice.

Bower alleges that Charles went on a campaign to snub the Middletons, specifically leaving them out of public events they typically would have attended. Bower wrote that the Queen’s courtiers picked up on Charles’ feelings and “decided to ignore Carole Middleton on social occasions.” When William learned of this, he knew there was only one person he could go to.

“William became ‘infuriated’ and ‘consulted with his grandmother,” Bower said.

At 91 years of age, the Queen is used to dealing with social problems such as this one. She decided to counter the attacks on Carole by inviting her to her Balmoral estate along with a television camera crew to film their outing. This move let the Middletons know that they are still very respected members of the British royal family, and let Kate know that the Queen is on her family’s side.

While we’re relieved the Queen was able to make the Middletons feel better, she has unfortunately been unable to repair the rift between Charles and William, who is still “furious” over his father’s actions. We can only hope that the British royal family is able to solve this problem before it gets any bigger and ruins the relationship between father and son forever.
