Greed is one of the seven deadly sins for a reason, as it can be one of the worst qualities us humans exhibit.

Though the woman in this story understood the evils of greed, her elderly husband allowed the sin to completely take over his life. The man was so greedy that he demanded his wife have him buried with all of his money so that he could take it all with him. The ingenious solution she came up with instead is now going viral.

“He was a real cheapskate when it came to his money,” the story states. “He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, ‘Now listen, when I die I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. Because I want to take all my money to the after life.’”

Being a kind-hearted woman, the wife wanted to honor her husband’s wishes, yet she also did not want to carry out this appallingly selfish request. By guilt-tripping her, the husband was eventually able to get her to promise “with all her heart” that she would bury the man’s money with him when he passed away.

When the husband finally ended up dying, the woman was placed in a very difficult position, as she needed the money they had saved up to survive herself. After thinking the situation over, the woman was able to come up with a clever trick that would allow her to keep her promise and also save herself.

“[Her husband] was stretched out in the casket, the wife was sitting there in black next to their best friend,” the story stated. “When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, ‘Wait a minute!’”

The woman’s friends watched stunned as she carried out her side of the deal, as she took out a shoebox and placed it inside the casket before telling the undertaker to lock it. One of her friends simply could not take it anymore, and asked the woman why she carried out her husband’s insane request.

“‘I hope you weren’t crazy enough to put all that money in there with that stingy old man,’” she stated.

“Yes, I promised. I’m a good Christian, I can’t lie,” the widow replied. “I promised him that I was to put that money in that casket with him.”

“‘You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?’” the friend asked.

“I sure did,” answered the wife. “I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a check.”

Game, set, match!

If her husband wants his precious money, all he has to do is find a way to cash the check from six feet under!
