Nancy Bleur has devoted her life to helping children by working as a Kindergarten teacher in Iowa. Her years of teaching have given Nancy the ability to really connect with her students on a deep level, and she prides herself on being able to notice when something is not going well in their home life.

One day, Nancy noticed that her 4 year-old student Camden was not acting like his usual self, so she pulled him aside to have a chat with him. Her heart sank as soon as the boy started talking. Camden shared that his father, 34-year-old Darreld Petersen, was very sick. As soon as Nancy realized that Darreld was in very bad shape, she decided to call him immediately to see if there was anything she could do to help.

Darreld told Nancy that he was having major issues with his kidneys, which were only functioning at 20 percent. He looked so bad during his dialysis treatment that Camden was afraid to even see him, which broke Nancy’s heart. When she heard what was going on, she decided to help Darreld in a way that nobody was expecting: Nancy generously offered Darreld one of her kidneys!

Doctors told Nancy that she was a perfect match, so she signed the necessary paperwork and prepared for the operation.

“I was really excited about it. I was ecstatic. I don’t know what I would’ve done for closure if I wasn’t [a match],” she said.

Darreld was stunned by the selflessness of his son’s teacher.

“It’s just amazing. There are people waiting every day for a kidney, for an organ in general. I wish there were more people like her. She’s giving me a second chance at life,” Darreld said.

Now, Camden has his father back, and he could not be any happier! God bless this amazing teacher for going above and beyond to help her student and save his father’s life!
