When a human mother gives birth it’s a magical, but private moment. She’s usually tucked away in her own private hospital room and only the doctor and a few select family members are lucky enough to be present. That privacy isn’t the case if you’re an elephant mother. Watch the video below to see how different the birthing process is for the herd.

One lucky group of safari tourists got more than they had ever hoped for. They had went on the safari to see African wildlife up close and personal and this day they got just what they came for.

They got to see a mother elephant standing alone in a field giving birth. The other elephants in the herd didn’t seem to give a second thought to the mother going through the birthing process; that is until the baby hit the ground.

As you can see in the video, once the baby makes its way to earth, the entire herd rushes in the see their newest addition. It’s a welcome party of enormous proportions.

The mother doesn’t get to spend time alone quietly snuggling her baby like a human mother would. Instead, the entire herd steps in to see, and protect, the new baby.

Elephant herds are notoriously protective of their young, and have often been recorded exhibiting human like behavior when it comes to taking care of the babies in the herd. Watch this amazing event unfold in the video below.
