A new story is going viral showing just how powerful the bond can be between a little boy and his cat.

Meet Madden, a brave little boy who was born with a cleft-lip and a complete heterochromia iridum.

“Heterochromia iridum is when a part of the iris has at least two colors. Complete heterochromia iridum, where the eyes are completely different colors all together, is quite rare, existing in less than 1% of the population, I’m told. That plus the cleft lips is exceptionally rare,” explained Christina Humphreys, Madden’s mom.

Madden was relentlessly bullied about his unique features at school, and he started to feel like he would never actually fit in with anyone. Then he met a cat who changed his life forever!

“Last week, a friend posted an image of the cat in our cleft moms group. This kitty was taken in by a rescue group in Minnesota. We knew immediately that this kitty was meant to be part of our family,” Christina wrote.

Madden and his mom both knew they had to have this kitty because he also was born with a cleft lip and heterochromia iridum! The odds that both Madden and the cat would have the same two disorders are astronomically low, and the little boy could not wait to meet his feline friend!

“They were destined to be best friends,” Christina said.

Friends and family immediately pitched in money to fund Christina and Madden’s trip from their Oklahoma home to Minnesota to get the cat.

“We’re usually not spontaneous people, but we knew that we were meant to love this kitty. Moon, the kitty, and Madden are the perfect companions for each other,” she continued.

These days, Moon and Madden are inseparable as they take on life facing similar challenges.

“I’m amazed that we found out about him, and even more amazed by the friends and strangers that helped us get to him, and adopt him. Everyone needs a friend, and everyone needs to feel understood. I’m so thankful Madden has Moon,” Christina said.

“I had no intention of our family getting attention from this at all, but if anything does get attention, I truly hope it benefits kids with cleft lips, if only to raise awareness,” she concluded.
