A 17 year old with down syndrome had been turned down by every girl he had asked to homecoming, his hopes were one can only assume – quite down. The reality of life is that it’s difficult for almost all of us without having a disability, for those that do – life can be a struggle. Daniel, the 17 year old in question, ended up having an amazing dance, the story of how can reassure all of us that good things still do happen in a world that sometimes feels quite glum!
A 10th grader at Daniel’s high school took matters into her own hands, asking Daniel to homecoming. Kylie told the Surprise Squad “I don’t think of kids that have a disability… I don’t think of them as being different. I hope I can make his night fun.”
Tanya, Daniels mother, was incredibly touched by Kylie’s heartfelt actions. The video below includes a clip where Kylie asks Daniel to homecoming, followed by a big smile and a hug. Tanya’s reaction isn’t surprising “It’s not about that Daniel has a disability. It’s Kylie didn’t see any disability. That is what your heart wants as a mom”. We all have these same basic things in common, sometimes we let aesthetic and artificial differences between us make us forget that we all have the same basic desires as people, to be accepted and appreciated.
Via LittleThings: The team at the FOX5 Surprise Squad was also impressed by Kylie’s sweet and simple act of kindness. So, they decided to show up before the homecoming dance to deliver a night of surprises no one could have imagined.
From being driven to the dance in a shiny Rolls Royce and a red carpet entrance, Daniel ended up breaking down in tears of joy before the night was over.
