There’s nothing quite like the relationships we have with our grandparents. Sadly, grandparents often do not live to see their grandchildren have babies. In the video below, however, one young woman is determined to make sure her dying grandfather meets her new baby.

Joy Caitlyn Phero, 20, was raised by her grandparents and has always been incredibly close to them. She was particularly close to her grandfather, Charles “Buck” Marshall, affectionately known as “Pop Pop.”

“He taught me how to be strong and how to keep my chin held high in the toughest of situations,” Joy said.

When Joy gave birth to her baby girl, Chloe May, she wanted nothing more than for her grandfather to meet his new great-grandchild. Sadly, Charles was dying of pancreatic cancer in the very hospital that Joy was giving birth in. The two were only separated by a few floors at Virtua Voorhees Hospital in New Jersey.

Knowing that Charles did not have much time, Joy knew that she needed to rush Chloe up to meet him as soon as she was born, so she enlisted the help of Nurse Randi Boucher.

“My biggest fear my whole pregnancy was my Pop Pop not being able to meet Chloe,” Joy said.

Randi was able to rush Joy and the newborn Chloe up to Charles’ room, and what happened when they got there was incredibly touching. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Charles met his great grandchild!

Sadly, Charles passed away soon after this meeting, but his memory lives on in the hearts of Joy and Chloe! Watch the emotional meeting in the video below, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
