Myda Lewis spent her life working at a clothing store on Main Street in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She had always watched the “open topped cars” drive by during the parades and been fascinated with them. So when her 107th birthday approached, she only had one wish.
She wanted to ride in a convertible car in a parade for her birthday. Her community decided to give her the birthday she’d been dreaming about and so much more. As her birthday approached, her caregivers at Westhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center began planning.
Determined to fulfill Myda’s wish, administrators for the nursing home contacted the downtown merchants and explained that they were going to be bringing Myda downtown for her birthday wish. They asked merchants to step outside and wave so it would look like a parade.

Little by little, the news spread and a Facebook event page was made about Myda’s upcoming birthday cruise. Before they knew it, some 800 people had confirmed they would be in attendance and the sidewalks were packed full when the big day arrived.
As Myda’s convertible drove down Main Street hundreds of people waved happy birthday signs, threw confetti, and gave her flowers and balloons in celebration of her big day. The residents of the little town say it’s not every day that someone turns 107 and they were determined to make her wish come true.

As it turns out, the town also fulfilled Myda’s second birthday wish. Her second wish was for everyone to just be happy. By the looks of the photographs and the video, everyone was definitely happy when they celebrated Myda’s birthday.
