Kristen Koryciak was simply doing her duty when she noticed a man that had bought groceries earlier walk back into the store. She was working as security at a Houston, Texas, Walmart when the man entered the store with a bandaged arm.

She asked the man what had happened and he explained that he had experienced a diabetic episode and collapsed in the parking lot earlier. While emergency personnel attended to him, someone had stolen his groceries.

The officer, who says her grandmother suffers from diabetes too, wanted to help the man replace the groceries that he had bought earlier in the day. She says she cares about the community and the man was already having a bad day. Having to buy his groceries again wasn’t fair.

Officer Koryciak then took the man into the store and bought him $25 worth of groceries as well as medication for his diabetes. “That’s part of my job; to care about people and to help people,” she said.

She added that she didn’t think twice about the gesture and said she would do it again in a heartbeat. She says she didn’t do it for the publicity, simply to pay it forward.
