Kala and Kiera were just two of the many pups locked up in an animal shelter in Atlanta, Georgia. Their time was quickly running out. The desperate pups were inseparable and although afraid, seemed to cling to one another through their fear. It was that friendship that would catch the attention of animal lovers around the world.

With their time nearing, the shelter snapped a photo of Kala hugging Kiera and posted it to their Facebook page. The post, along with the photo, read: “I’m Kala. This is Kiera. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelter see how scared we are, but just told each other that today is our deadline. We have to have someone rescue us or we’ll be ‘next.’ Kiera is black and not a real boxer, just a mix.”

The crew at the shelter posted the heartbreaking picture to Facebook and prayed. That day would be the sweet puppies’ last day at the shelter unless they could find homes for them. The post said that it didn’t matter if the pups were adopted together or separate, as long as they got to live.

And live they did! It took a mere two hours and six minutes from the time the post went live until the moment both pups left the shelter together. The Facebook post caught the attention of rescuers at Angels Among Us Pet Rescue who went and rescued the dogs from their certain deaths.

Workers at the shelter were relieved to know these puppy pals were now safe and together. They now would go to a foster home where they would be pampered and taken care of until they could be adopted to their forever homes.

The story for Kala and Kiera doesn’t end there though. Just a few months after being placed with a foster family, the faithful friends were adopted into their forever homes. Luckily, they were adopted together by two more long time friends, Wendy and Pam. They had just lost their two elderly dogs, and these playful pups helped fill the void in their hearts.

We’re grateful Kala and Kiera didn’t end up as casualties and instead, they are being loved and cared for by two new owners who undoubtedly needed them just as much!
