Rain is a dog who thankfully now lives in a happy home, but life didn’t start out so easily for her.

Her rescue began when Hope For Paws founder Eldad Hagar received a call about a stray dog who had been hiding below a van for a few days. His team rushed to the location to find the dog, and when they got there, they saw a heartbreaking sight.

Rain was cowering below the van covered in dust and completely terrified. Her ears had been eaten away by flies, and when rescuer Loreta Frankonyte tried to lure the sweet dog with bites of cheeseburger, the animal cried like a human in fear. She would run whenever a human got close to her, and Loreta described her cries as “[something] that I have never heard in my life!”

Rain was so terrified of people that it was clear she had been abused by her previous owners. She managed to get away from rescuers whenever they got close, wedging herself in a narrow space between two tall storage cabinets to avoid rescuers.

Loreta was eventually able to get Rain to trust her and lure her out of her hiding place. Once they were back to the rescue center, Rain was bathed and groomed, and the dog finally started to calm down as she received some much needed TLC.

After a few weeks, Rain was a totally different dog, and Hope For Paws decided to put her up for adoption. However, fate had other ideas for her…

Allison Dunbar was helping Loreta with another pet rescue when she saw Rain, and she immediately fell in love! Allison decided to adopt Rain, who was named after her initial stormy situation, and now the dog has all the love she ever could have wanted!

With the Dunbar family, Rain has a loving home, a huge backyard to run around in, and even a new canine friend named Ernie! In addition, the Dunbars have changed her name to something that would reflect her sunny, smart, and feisty personality better. Rain is now Sassy Pants Dunbar, and she could not love her new home more!
