A south Florida resident got a surprise one morning when he discovered a stray cat eating from his cat’s food bowl. The stray cat was eating frantically and barely took the time to come up for air. It was obvious the cat hadn’t eaten in a while.

The man, instead of shooing away the cat, allowed him to eat. The poor animal was in poor shape and had mange so bad that its eyes had crusted shut. The poor animal had been walking the streets basically blind.

Taking pity on the cat, the man lured the poor animal into a pet carrier and then took to social media to find help. Luckily, one of his friends, Carmen Morales Weinberg, knew exactly what to do to help the cat.

She is the founder of a rescue group called Animal Friends Project. She took the cat to a nearby vet to start treatment for his conditions. Not only did the cat have a severe case of mange, he was also malnourished and dehydrated.

Despite everything the cat had endured, it didn’t take him long to warm up to his rescuers. Carmen named the cat Cotton and took him home with her to begin nursing him back to health. She says he stayed hunched over for several days and seemed very uncomfortable.

But little by little, as he began gaining weight and getting healthy, he began to come around and interact more with his caregiver. His fur began growing back and his eyes began to heal. When he finally opened his eyes, Carmen couldn’t believe what she saw.

Hiding behind his crusted eyelids were beautiful different colored eyes. Cotton has heterochromia iridum, which means one eye was blue and one eye was green. His eyes were absolutely stunning!

With Carmen’s help, Cotton has undergone an incredible transformation. He has gone from a stray who was struggling to stay alive, to an animal that is thriving and beautiful. He looks like he never had a thing wrong with him.
