After seeing the example set by her six-year-old daughter, Kenyatta Lewis couldn’t help share the amazing story about her daughter on her Facebook page. What she didn’t know is how inspiring her daughter would be to millions of other people.
It was a regular day for Kenyatta and her daughter Janiyah. They had left their house and were out and about shopping. Kenyatta spotted the homeless man sitting on the sidewalk, but didn’t pay him much attention. It was her daughter who would notice something different about the man sitting on the cold pavement outside the store.
Despite her efforts to hurry her daughter past the man, Janiyah stopped her mother and asked her if she saw that the man was crying. She asked Kenyatta what was wrong with him. She told her daughter that he was probably sad, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy Janiyah.
Janiyah walked up to the man crying on the ground and asked him if he was ok. She told him it was a nice day and asked him if he was hot. Then she asked him why he didn’t go home instead of sitting on the dirty ground. The man, touched by the concern of the little girl, told her he had no home, but that he’d be ok.
This upset Janiyah even further. She was sad to learn the man had no home. ‘That means you’re homeless. You have no food because you have no refrigerator,’ she told him. Pulling money out of her own little purse, she gave the man a few dollars, pointed to McDonald’s, and told him to go get him something from there because it was her favorite place to eat. The happiness the little girl gave the man from her actions was obvious by the smile on his face.
Inspired by the little girl, two more people came forward and gave the man more money and encouragement. It turns out the man had recently lost not just his home to fire, but also his wife. He had lost all of his physical possessions, but the love of his life as well.

Janiyah was able to see the man needed help, and unlike many adults that had walked past the man, she stopped to make a difference. Her actions have inspired thousands of people across the web that have heard her story. Kenyatta says we should all be inspired by her because children are our future. “This gives me a little more hope for the world.”
