Sometimes when we plan on doing one thing, we find ourselves being caught up in something else. So was the case for Dave who stopped by a pasture to film some cows cooling off in the water on a hot summer day.

Dave was separated from the cows by an electric fence, but one cow seemed to be trying to get his attention. He wasn’t sure what exactly was going on. She was separated from the other cows. But it quickly became apparent that something wasn’t quite right.

When Dave went to investigate he realized what was wrong. The cow, named Flo, had delivered a calf earlier in the day. Somehow, the little calf had ended up on the other side of the fence. The mom hadn’t exactly picked the best spot to have her calf.

Knowing that it was critical for the calf to be with its mother in order to survive, Dave stepped in to help. He propped the fence up with a stick, then began working to push the calf back to the same side of the fence as its mother.

In the video below you can see that the mom isn’t too sure about Dave being near her calf. She scratches at the ground, stomps around a bit, and bellows. Her frustration with the situation was apparent.

Dave continues working gently with the calf to reunite it with its mother and eventually he succeeds. As soon as the baby is on the other side it takes off and follows its mother out of harms way. Dave admits that it wasn’t an easy task and he did take a couple shocks from the fence in the process.

After getting the calf back with its mother, Dave reported the incident to the farmer who checked on the calf, tagged it, and reported that it was doing well. When Dave goes back for a visit, it appears that Flo and her baby recognize him.
