Sonya Romero is a devoted teacher who goes above and beyond to help her students every single day. Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sonya does not believe her duties as a teacher end in the classroom, and she recently showed that in an amazing way.

Sonya recently became a foster mom to two students who were going through difficult times in their lives. She decided to take them in even though she is already taking care of her own son as well.

Though she is not a wealthy woman at all, as she is living off of a teacher’s salary, Sonya uses her own money to pay for clothes, breakfast and toiletries for the students in need. She never complains about this, and instead wants to do whatever it takes to make her students happy and comfortable in their lives.

When television host Ellen DeGeneres heard about what Sonya was doing for her students, she knew that she had to have her on her show. To let Sonya know how amazing and loved she really is, Ellen secretly sent a camera crew to her school to film a tribute for her.

“When we say we love her, she says she loves us back,” one adorable kindergartener said as Sonya looked on through tears in her eyes.

On top of that, Target gave Sonya a $10,000 donation and $10,000 in a separate check for the school! By the end of the segment, both Sonya and Ellen were in tears!
