Hong Nguyen was recently out for a morning jog when she spotted something out of the corner of her eye that had her stopping dead in her tracks.

After hearing a small cry, Hong noticed a little baby lying alone in the grass. She looked around for the baby’s parents, but she could not find anyone. At first, Hong was outraged that a parent would abandon their child in this way, but she later learned that there was actually another explanation for this tragic situation.

The baby’s name is Genesis, and she went missing inside her mother Lashanna Hailey’s car when it was carjacked at a gas station at around 3:30am. Lashanna ran home to call police, who found the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. When they found the car, Genesis was not inside it.

Had Hong not gone out for a jog that morning, Genesis may never have been found safely. After being alone in the grass for six or seven hours, Genesis had ant bites all over her.

Lashanna said that this is the first time she had ever left Genesis alone in the car while she got gas. This serves as a reminder to always hold onto your keys when putting gas in your car, as carjackings like this one are more common than you would think.
