Kinsie Johns is a third grade teacher who loves her job and wants her classroom to be a safe space for all students. That’s why she was devastated to learn recently that one of her students was being teased.

Kinsie immediately formulated a plan to put a stop to this bullying, and what she did completely took her students by surprise.

It seems that one of her students had been teased for styling her hair in the fashion called “space buns.” Kinsie teamed up with the teased girl to formulate a plan, and they put it into action the very next day.

Kinsie’s students were stunned when they saw her walk into the classroom wearing “space buns” herself! The teased girl was overjoyed that her teacher so clearly had her back.

“She was beaming when she saw me and the students noticed that our hair looked the same,” Kinsie said.

Kinsie wrote on Facebook that she encourages her students to be themselves, telling them that “it’s ok to be different.” She’s a big believer in the Dr. Seuss quote, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out!?”

The day afterwards, all the students came in wearing space buns themselves in solidarity with Kinsie and the bullied girl!

“The little point I was trying to make turned into a huge support for my little friend,” Kinsie concluded. “All the girls in my class are wearing their hair in ‘space buns’ and even some of the boys got involved! They all wanted to support her and we even got some second graders involved!”
