Julie Bryan was overjoyed when she found out she was pregnant with a baby girl. After she gave birth to her daughter Addie, however, she was heartbroken to find out that the girl was born with Larsen syndrome, which is a rare condition that causes abnormal development of the bones. Because of this, Addie spent the early part of her life in Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.

Addie was sadly born with both her legs “backwards,” and she got fitted with her first cast when she was just five days old. Julie stated that in the next few years, Addie went through 60 or 70 casts, with an additional four surgeries on top of that.

“When she was born, her knees were backward, her legs were all the way up to her head, she had hip dysplasia, and a club foot. We didn’t know if she would ever walk, if she would ever run,” Julie said.

Thanks to the amazing medical care she received, Addie can now walk, run, jump, and live the life of a normal kid! Addie was about to turn eight back in 2015 when she decided to do something to give back to the hospital that had given her the amazing life she has now. Making a homemade sign, Addie headed to a busy street corner in Rockwell, Texas to collect donations so that other children like her can get the casts and other devices that they need!

Addie’s amazing story went viral as people all over the world were touched by what she was doing. She was able to raise $19,500, but her crusade did not stop there! An anonymous donor heard about Addie’s story and sent her a letter with a $50,000, meaning that she raised nearly $70,000!

Addie explained that this story was never about her, and was instead about the hospital and the children like her who need medical care.
