Life is always throwing curve balls at us, and though some of them can seem tragic in the moment, they can also turn out to be blessings in disguise. Adoption is one example of this, as it often occurs when a couple tragically can’t conceive a child themselves. While the adoption process is difficult and long, it’s all worth it in the end when the parents end up with a little one whom they love!
Since the child’s DNA is often a mystery, parents know very little about their child when they get them. That’s why DNA tests have become popular among adopted children, as their parents would like to be warned about potential health issues or other things that run in families through genetics.
When Staci and James Maneage of Weldon Spring, Missouri adopted a little girl from China, they eventually had her get a DNA test so they could get more information on her background. When they got the results, they ended up getting the surprise of their lives!
When the couple went about trying to adopt a child, they learned about a 10 year-old girl from the Hakka region of China who desperately needed a loving home. Though they were told the little girl suffered from a brain disorder, they decided to adopt her anyway and named her Elliana. Other couples had balked at her brain condition, but it only made Staci and James want to love her even more.
Soon after adopting Elliana, the Maneages learned that a couple they went to church with had also adopted a child from China, a 7 year-old girl named Kinley. This little girl suffered from the same brain disorder as Elliana, and the two became fast friends!
The two looked similar and got along like sisters, but since China is a country of 1.4 billion people, nobody thought they could actually be related. That’s why it came as a huge shock when the girls’ parents had them take a DNA test and learned that they really are long lost sisters! What are the odds of that?! How incredible!
