Keaton Tilson is a 19-year-old U.S. Army mechanic from Granite City, Illinois who is stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. Keaton had not been home since Christmas and desperately missed his family, so he was able to get a last minute leave to go home and see them over Memorial Day weekend.

Since his leave was given at such short notice, he was flying standby and ended up getting stuck at the Dallas International Airport for two days. Each time he tried to get on a flight, it would end up being full. With the days going by, Keaton began to accept that he might not get to go home to see his loved ones at all.

That’s when a stranger stepped in to perform an act of kindness the likes of which Keaton was never expecting!

Missouri resident Josh Rainey was heartbroken to watch as Keaton tried and failed to get on a flight after already spending days in the airport. Josh’s father was a military veteran and a former police officer, so he had the utmost respect for people in uniform.

Josh stepped in and asked if he could give Keaton his own plane ticket, but the ticket agent said that this would be against the rules. He then called his wife to ask for advice on what he should do next.

After ending the phone call, Josh approached Keaton with an offer that the young soldier did not expect at all. Keaton asked him a question in return that had both of them fighting back tears.
