When 15 year-old Korryn Bachner went to sit by a campfire with her friends, she had no idea that her life was about to change forever.

As Korryn sat laughing with her friends, someone poured gasoline over the flames of the fire, which caused a huge explosion. Korryn and some of her other friends were severely burned in the incident, but she was the most injured of all of them.

90% of Korryn’s face was burned in the explosion, and she was left with third-grade burns to her face, hands and neck. After spending two weeks in the hospital fighting for her life, Korryn was released to go home with her entire head in bandages. Despite everything that she has been through, Korryn will still need to have more surgeries in the future.

Before she was burned, Korryn was a cheerleader at Glendale East High School, in Illinois and was looking forward to her upcoming prom. However, since she was released from the hospital one day before the prom, she was sure she would not be able to attend.

She already had a dress picked for the dance that she planned to attend with her date,  Jonathan Ayala, but her confidence was completely shot after she was burned. She ended up telling Jonathan and the rest of her friends that she would not be able to attend prom, but they quickly decided that they were not going to take no for an answer.

Just a few hours before prom, Korryn was surprised to hear a knock at her door. When she opened it, she saw Jonathan and her friends decked out in their prom outfits! She was then stunned when they told her that she would be attending prom after all.

Korryn’s friends got right to work putting up lights and decorations in her basement, transforming it into a ballroom. If Korryn could not go to prom, they were going to bring prom to her!

“She has such a great group of friends. There were definitely some tears, but they were happy tears. Jonathan missed his senior prom for her,” Korryn’s mother said. “She has the opportunity to still attend two more, but I don’t know that another prom will ever be as special as this one was.”

Korryn was even able to pose for official prom photos with her date!
