When 13-year-old Cameron Simmons made a 911 call to the Sumter Police Department, Officer Gaetano Acerra was sent to his home to see what was going on. When Acerra arrived, he found Cameron sitting on his front steps crying as he said he wanted to run away from home. When Acerra walked inside the house, however, he saw something he was not expecting…

Cameron told the officer that his mother had yelled at him because he wanted to play video games. Instead of leaving, Acerra decided to go into the boy’s house with him, and he was stunned when he saw the teenager’s bedroom.

As Cameron led him into his room, Acerra saw all his belongings were in trash bags and he didn’t have a bed to sleep in. The officer learned that Cameron’s mother was struggling financially and had been having trouble making ends meet since moving the family from Texas to South Carolina to care for a sick relative.

Acerra knew he had to do something to help Cameron and his family, so he surprised them by purchasing a brand new bedroom set for him as well as toys for his siblings! The family was shocked when Acerra returned to drop off a brand new desk, chair, television, bed and Wii game system for Cameron.

He also gave a full bedroom set to Cameron’s brother and an air hockey table for them to play together. Cameron was so touched that he began to cry, and his mother was overwhelmed by the kind gesture as well.
