Mother’s Day is a day that is meant to celebrate moms everywhere as well as everything they do for their children. However, it is also a sad day for some, especially for those whose own mothers have passed away and whose children are not there to celebrate.

Barbara Foy of Horry County, South Carolina had a horrible start to Mother’s Day, but thanks to the kindness of strangers, her day later completely turned around!

Barbara’s son had not called her in a long time, but when he didn’t take the time to call on Mother’s Day, she felt devastated and unloved. Deciding she needed to get out of the house, Barbara took herself out to lunch at a local Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant, and that’s where things started to turn around for her.

A server at the restaurant chatted with Barbara as she ate alone and learned that she had nobody to celebrate Mother’s Day with. When restaurant employees Christianna Smith, Mariah Brown, and Kabria Hasty heard this, they decided to do something about it!

As Barbara finished her meal, restaurant staffers all pitched in to get her a gift basket full of nice items. They gave Barbara the basket and told her that her lunch was on them, and when another customer heard what was happening, he gave Barbara a rose as well!

“I think we were all almost in tears by the end of the story,” said Lauren Nave, the restaurant’s manager. “We wanted to make sure that she knew how special she was on Mother’s Day.”

Barbara was incredibly touched by this gesture, telling the servers, “I really felt like I was queen for a day…mother for a day! I’ve never been made to feel so special.”
