Penny was just a little puppy when she was found wandering the streets alone. After being taken to an animal shelter, Penny bounced from family to family, as she was unable to find the forever home she wanted. Nobody seemed to want to keep Penny, but they had no idea what a clever little dog she really was.

Eventually, a woman named Leonora Anzaldua saw Penny and immediately fell in love with her. Since Penny had nothing to stimulate her mind at her previous homes, she acted out in destructive ways. Leonora actually took the time to work with Penny and teach her commands, and she soon learned how smart a dog she really was.

By following Leonora’s lead, Penny mastered sitting on her third try. She picked up all other commands very fast as well, and by the age of 8 months, Penny had mastered every dog trick and more!

After learning that dogs have the mental capacity of a human toddler, Leonora decided to see what else she could teach Penny. She bought some block letters to see if she could teach Penny to recognize shapes. Not only did Penny master this as well, she also learned to spell her own name!

Now that she has an owner who took the time to stimulate her mentally, Penny is thriving! This just shows how much some simple love and attention can do for any living creature!
