Shane Shafer was alone at home for just a few minutes while his mom went to pick up his siblings. He had been home alone before and didn’t think anything about it, so when he heard a noise at the front door, he just assumed it was his mom trying to unlock the door with her key.

Instead, it was a man in a ski mask that entered the house and he seemed like he was after Shane and not anything else in the house. Luckily, the 9-year-old was protected by the family’s pitbull named Baby Girl.

The fourth-grader says it was about 5 p.m. when the man entered his house and he was terrified. The man started chasing Shane, but then he called his dog and the dog started after the man to protect the little boy.

Baby Girl went after the man’s legs and chased him out of the house. Shane says that it was Baby Girl who protected him and she’s now his hero. He didn’t know what else to do because she was the only protection he had.

As soon as the man left the house he fled away in a silver car. Shane immediately went to a neighbor’s house to call the police. The neighbors said they were glad to help the boy because it’s a neighborhood where people help each other out.

Shane’s mom got a phone call from the neighbor telling her that her son was okay, but there had been an attempted robbery. She feels like the robbery wasn’t just a normal robbery because the man seemed to be after her son and not belongings in the house.

Shane rewarded Baby Girl with a sucker once he got to return back home with his parents. They say it will be a long time before Shane, or any of his siblings, stay home alone again.
