Ashli Taylor was born with congenital cirrhosis of the liver, which meant that she was jaundiced and had to be fed through a nasal tube. She spent the first few months of her life in the hospital with plugs and cords attached to her tiny body, and she needed a transplant in order to survive.

Crystal Pope-Taylor, Ashli’s mother, donated part of her liver to save her baby’s life. The transplant was done at Baylor Scott & White in Dallas, Texas by Dr. Robert Goldstein, and it was a huge success. Thanks to this doctor and her mother, Ashli has gone on to live a happy and healthy life.

In December of 2015, Ashli was sitting in her creative writing class at school when something happened that she never saw coming. Her fellow students had no idea that Ashli had been through so much during the first year of her life. Ashli decided to write a letter to Goldstein for one of her assignments 15 years after he performed the operation that saved her life.

Ashli was sitting in class at Temple High School when a man in hospital scrubs and a ponytail walked into the room holding a bouquet of flowers. What happened next is a beautiful moment that has since gone viral, touching the hearts of millions of people all over the globe.
