Spring is finally upon us, so millions of Americans are getting back in their gardens! While gardening is a fun pastime, the most annoying part about it is dealing with pesky weeds that never seem to go away.

Products available in stores that get rid of weeds are often full of harsh chemicals that we don’t want to get near any of our other plants. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of seven all-natural hacks that you can use to get rid of weeds without putting the rest of your plants in danger!

Baking Soda for Crevices

Sprinkling baking soda in the crevices between your pavers will prevent weeds such as dandelions from growing there, as they can’t survive the sodium!

Salt Water Solution

Boil two cups of water and one cup of salt and pour the mixture directly on the weeds to immediately kill them. Sprinkling salt directly on weeds that pop up is also a good way to get rid of them as well.

Vinegar

Fill a spray bottle with vinegar and spray it directly on the weeds to kill them. Make sure to spray from the top of the weeds down to their lowest roots so that they won’t grow again. You may need to do this every day for awhile, even if it rains, for it to work effectively. We must warn you to also make sure your other plants don’t come into contact with the spray.

Vodka

One natural mixture that kills weeds involves 1-ounce vodka, some liquid soap, and 2 cups of water. This mixture is best applied on a sunny day, as the alcohol breaks down the waxy coating on its leaves and will help the sun to dry it out.

Mulch

If you cover your garden with mulch, it will prevent weeds from growing at all and coming into contact with your soil. It also will keep sunlight out, which will prevent the weeds from growing bigger. As the mulch is doing this, it is also enriching your soil and keeping the area moist, which is better for your plants.

Newspaper

Pour water over your soil and place newspaper over the weeds. Then wet the area again and cover it with mulch. This will keep the sunlight out while also giving earthworms a warm shelter.

Weed Torch

If you don’t want to get dirty in your garden, you can always just blast the weeds with a weed torch. These torches heat up the water inside of the plant, turning the liquid to steam. This makes the cells inside explode, causing the weeds to die.

WARNING: Do NOT use this torch on poison ivy or any plant that is poisonous because it will release the poison oils into the air and thus into your eyes and lungs.
