It often feels like police officers are only portrayed negatively in the media, which is why it’s so refreshing that a story is going viral showing off the softer side of cops!

After learning a group of special needs students were not going to attend their prom, officers in Boynton Beach, Florida decided to take matters into their own hands to make sure these kids had a night to remember! They ended up attending prom with the special needs students, and when they got there, the officers took to the dance floor to bust out their best “Whip & Nay Nay.”

Retired police officer Scott Harris, whose wife is a special education teacher at the high school, first came up with the idea to accompany the special needs students to the prom, and the rest of the police department took this idea and ran with it!

The special needs students were beyond thrilled to have the officers be their dates.

“It’s amazing to see these young kids that don’t have the opportunity to come do this be here today,” Scott said. “They’re awesome kids and now they’re mingling with all the other kids doing the same thing that the kids that don’t have the disabilities are doing.”

The officers arrived at the school in full uniform with corsages for the girls and boutonnieres for the boys.

Once they got on the dance floor, the cops were not afraid to show these kids that they had some serious dance moves!

The officers ended up dancing the night away, showing off their skills in numerous dance forms, including salsa!

“As much as tonight means to these students, it means the world to us to be able to escort them to their prom,” the police department wrote on Twitter.
